What are some good soda alternatives?

  • I'm trying to drink less soda. I don't have much, but occasionally have a Coke Zero or something similar. What are some good alternatives?

Do you like unsweetened iced tea at all? About the only things I drink are water and green tea.

Check the local health food store, or any local asian grocery. They'll have a better selection of teas, included some pretty good premade bottled ones.

also its ridiculously easy to make your own - fill a large pitcher with filtered water, add 4-5 teabags and sit it in your fridge overnight... voila! delicious iced tea! Its fun to play with different flavors in the tea aisle :)

Crystal Light is pretty good. Also, as bland as it is, water often does the trick.

Yeah, I hear that. I was addicted to soda for years, but somehow this year, I've managed to kick the habit. I'll have the occasional soda, but we're talking maybe one a month. I just started with making a conscience effort to drink water at meals. I drink these for a little variety and taste...
      - Chocolate Milk
      - OJ
      - Crystal Light: Pomegranate
      - Green tea and black tea (both caffeinated and non-caffeinated)

I have been using the Crystal Light Pomegranate Lemonade. My idea is to gradually water it down more and more as I get used to it. Eventually I will just be drinking water!

The only way I overcome my addiction to Coca Cola Classic is by making my own Tazo's Passion Iced Tea at home. I put in a packet of Stevia to sweeten a bit and the soda craving goes away. It's really helped me to shed pounds.

I've been trying too, although my Coke Zero and Sprite Zero addiction is hard to beat.
So far, I've tried the Nunn tablets, particularly the grape flavor, a bit watered down. Specially at night to be properly hydrated for the morning runs.
Also tempted to buy one of those carbonation machines and make my own soda.

I have almost beaten my soda addiction. I have a problem drinking just plain water so I add a squirt of mio occasionally for a change up from the plain.

After I realised the calorie of a can of soda, and seeing the Diet/Zero calorie sodas/coke add up to your waist, I quit. I drink mineral water without flavor to enjoy the fizzyness. After not drinking for a few days, my cravings were gone, and now I only drink one glass when in a family dinner or treat myself a slice of pizza once or twice a month. So, mineral water it is =D

Entirely serious- go without soda for one week. Then a second week will be really easy. Then try coke zero, and you'll realize the taste isn't what you remember! Lemon water is great, so are flavored seltzers. Not the bubbly sweet flavored drinks, but regular old seltzer. TrueLemon makes unsweetened lemon individual mixes you put in a bottle of water that really taste like lemon juice (because it is just dehydrated lemon juice!) if you don't have lemons on hand or are traveling. I've been off soda about a month, and I don't like sweet drinks at all any more.

I like water too. It sounds totally plain and boring but you'll get used to it in under two weeks, I promise ;)

Technically, this is from a different diet plan, and my first thoughts when hearing about it were "ewww, yuck!" But it turned out to actually be pretty good: 1 part orange juice to 7 parts water. Not high calorie, not enough to spike your insulin even if you're sipping all day. It can be done with other juices as well, but the suggested ratios were different, depending on the amount of natural sugar in the juice. Oh, and it called for "not from concentrate" orange juice.
