What is a safe amount of weight to lose in a month?

  • I want to lose weight, but have been cautioned to do it in a safe way-- so what is a safe amount of weight to lose in a month? or do I just need to be losing it in a safe way meaning good diet and exercise and not worry about losing it too fast?

I've heard that 1-2 pounds is the safest amount to lose in a given week,

Looking into it some more, I've found that 1-2 pounds is recommended mostly because it's an attainable goal to set each week. The point is to set reasonable goals that you can reach, otherwise if you set an unrealistic goal and you don't reach it week after week, you may get discouraged and quit because "what's the point?" might set in.

Your rate of weight loss depends on your current body composition. Obese people tend to lose weight faster in the first few weeks of a nutrition and exercise program, as their bodies deflate due to losing a combination of water weight and fat. As you begin to put on more muscle, you may find your pants are fitting better, but you are not losing weight very fast. That's ok. Overall, your improved health and losing inches off your body is a better indication of success than weight lost.

Like others said 1-2 pounds per week is the best. You tend to gain weight back quicker if you lose a lot at one time. It's more unrealistic I guess. You definetly want to loose it in a safe way too though, diet pills are only temporary weight loss and that's if they even really work. You can do if you just set your mind to it!

Some people caution us like that because they are afraid we will thrive and blossom and make them question themselves. I would not worry too much.
