8 Ombre Smoothie Recipes You’ll Want to ‘Gram STAT

The unicorn food movement doesn’t show signs of slowing down. One healthy (and even more delicious!) way to get your rainbow fix at home: ombre smoothies. While blue majik has been the driving force behind this foodie trend, it’s hard to get a hold of the sapphire-hued powder. Instead, these vibrant smoothies allow you to play with a variety of fruits, vegetables, textures and tastes. Mixing and matching different layers of produce also gives you a tall glass of nutrients. The trick to creating an ombre of colors is to let each layer set in the freezer before adding another one on top. Follow that formula for these eight eye-catching, mouth-watering recipes.

8 Instagram-Worthy Ombre Smoothie Recipes

1. Spring-Inspired Layered Smoothie

If you love a good neutral palette, this three-layer smoothie will do. The base for each layer is made with potassium-rich bananas, zucchini, coconut butter, collagen powder, coconut yogurt and almond milk. Freeze-dried mango and turmeric offer vitamins A and C in the yellow layer. Beets and pitaya powder are pink powerhouses that pack essential B vitamins. The silver grey lining in the stack is blue-green algae and blackberries. They may be grey, but they provide plant-based protein, magnesium, potassium and folate. Pro tip: Use a chopstick to swirl the smoothie against the glass to create a tie-dye effect. Photo and recipe: Alison Wu / WuHaus

2. Matcha Basil Chia Parfait With Blackberry Mash

Green and purple are motivating colors in feng shui terms, so consider enjoying this smoothie before a workout. The matcha layer packs an antioxidant punch with spinach, banana and basil leaves. The chia seed pudding adds some texture and makes this smoothie more filling. For a sweet finale, it’s got blackberry mash. Photo and recipe: Sophie Bourdon / The Healthy Hour

Boasting vitamin K, omega-3 fatty acids and potassium, cauliflower helps bring a balance of veggies and fruit in this savory smoothie. Blue majik and almond yogurt provide some protein, while granola adds some crunch.  Photo and recipe: Ksenia / Breakfast Criminals

4. Peach-Cherry Smoothie and Coconut Chia Pudding Parfaits

Summer is calling us with this pretty-in-pink smoothie that matches the fiery sunset. Frozen peaches, cherries and banana slices make a silky smooth layer that tastes just like ice cream. 5. Passion Mango Surprise

You’ll want to go island-hopping ASAP after one sip of this tropical smoothie. Frozen mango, bananas, passion fruit, zucchini and coconut water are blended to prepare the sweet base. Raspberries and berry superfood powder add a punch of millennial pink (so hot right now!). Matcha powder and baby spinach make up the jade green layer. 6. Raw Chocolate and Raspberry Shake

Satisfy your craving for a slice of chocolate raspberry cake with this mouthwatering shake. Mesquite powder — an adaptogen — gives the chocolate layer a smoky and sweet flavor. Lemon zest adds a touch of bitterness to round out raspberries’ sweetness. Top with cacao nibs, shredded coconut, goji berries and chia seeds for some crunch. 7. Banana Split Smoothie

We could feel our mouth water just talking about what’s in this decadent dessert smoothie. Cacao powder, almond butter, almond milk, frozen bananas and dates make up the velvety chocolate smoothie. The best part: a banana gets split into halves and set up against the glass so the chocolate goodness pours over it. Grab a spoon — you’ll need one! Photo and recipe: Dana / Minimalist Baker

8. Berry Green Smoothie

Wake up to this colorful smoothie, which packs a bunch of feel-good ingredients. Mangos, gut-friendly Greek yogurt, spinach, orange juice and honey make the green layer.
