    Still Here

Well not much has really changed except that I'm getting closer to my normal routine, just things have to be done a little differently. I'm tracking my food again, which is great, and I've started doing a few exercises to just stay sane. I found that I can still do some crunches and modified push-ups. I've been doing a few "sit and be fit" type exercises too but nothing major. I'm still on crutches and that alone is quite a little workout at times. My next biggest accomplishment will be driving again but I hope I can do that soon.

    Impatient is my Name-o

I'm not really upset by how things are going, I just wish they would go faster. I wish I didn't need the crutches still and I'm trying to celebrate the fact that I can partially weight bear now, but still wish I knew how to progress. I don't really have a plan on how I get from dependent on crutches to just walking in the boot. My doctor said no to physical therapy because I still need to heal as my primary focus, it's frustrating because it seems like I could really use some strength back in my left leg - it just isn't strong enough to walk on yet. Time I suppose - just takes time.

    Still Here

I'm back home now and trying to get back into a routine. I had my first post surgery follow-up Monday morning and that went really well. Everything is healing up and they were able to remove the stitches and the staples. Also I moved out of the splint and into a walking boot/splint with instructions to gradually start adding weight. He said to take as much time as needed to transition and I'm still dependent on crutches. It's weird to see the differences between my two legs and feet - right now my main problem is so much pain but muscle strength. My left leg just hasn't healed to the point where it can support me but it's getting there. I'm headed in to work today for a few hours but I still don't know when I'll go back full-time. I also can't wait to get off the pain meds so I can drive again but the doctor said I would probably need them for a bit longer. To quote him "foot surgery hurts a lot" and I'm actually on a lot lower level medication then many of his other patients so it's all good.

    I hope...

I hope you're hanging in there and keeping your spirits up. Try to remember that you have made a lifestyle change and that having to live a little differently while you're healing doesn't mean you've failed. I've committed to myself that I'll make the healthy choice for myself 90% of the time. So if I only have limited options such as when I'm at a restaurant, I will pick the healthiest option available to me. I don't know, but it generally works for me. Everything starts with nutrition and then goes from there. While I was on vacation I worked out hard but went out to eat a lot and ate a lot of things that weren't good for me. The scale says that intense workouts did not offset the over-indulgence. But hey, it's vacation...Hang in there and heal.
