I turned 60 and my doctor insisted I have a blood test after avoiding it for a number of years. I hate having my blood drawn, but I powered thru it. The results were my A1c levels were showing that I was about to be diabetic. After I picked my jaw off the floor, I had to make a lifestyle decision. My doctor directed me to the glycemic index and to find foods that are 50 and under on the glycemic scale, which I now follow religiously, along with running and exercise. I went from 277 lbs to 251 lbs in three months and my blood pressure has dropped dramatically.
