Good news for you: This treat contains powerful antioxidants called flavonoids, as well as calcium, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/iron-deficiency-symptoms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">iron<\/a>, zinc, copper, potassium, magnesium and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/benefits-vitamin-b-complex\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">vitamins B<\/a>, C and E. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/fao.r.mailjet.com\/link\/01nz\/uhvx8x6\/1\/xp0C5Srgi_K3ZM-K1AogwQ\/aHR0cDovL2FqY24ubnV0cml0aW9uLm9yZy9jb250ZW50Lzg4LzEvNTg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A study<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/ajcn.nutrition.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition<\/a> showed that small amounts of dark chocolate and reduce blood pressure and improve insulin sensitivity,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/jjvirgin.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JJ Virgin<\/a>, C.N.S., author of <i>The Sugar Impact Diet<\/i>. \u201cBut most bars provide several servings, so you need to remind yourself to go easy.\u201d You can quickly overdo it and get overloaded with sugar, calories, and fat. Plus, warns Haas, chocolate can lose some of its antioxidants with processing.<\/p>\n<p>Choose options that contain at least 70 percent cacao; that should also be the first ingredient printed on the packaging, with just a short list of others (such as vanilla extract, milk and sugar) following it. Red Wine<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s true that red wine, with its antioxidants like flavonoids and resveratrol, can help prevent heart disease by increasing your levels of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/ldl-hdl-cholesterol-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HDL, the &#8220;good&#8221; cholesterol<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s also full of polyphenols, which might help protect the lining of blood vessels in your heart,\u201d says Elyse Wagner, nutritionist and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mykitchenshrink.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">My Kitchen Shrink<\/a>. \u201cSo it does seem to be more beneficial than most other types of alcohol.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t top off your glass just yet! A serving is only five-ounces, and you can\u2019t polish off a bottle by yourself \u2014 even splitting one is pushing it. Women should stick to no more than one glass a day, and men should cut themselves off at two. Nuts<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/nuts-calories-serving-size-infographic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nuts<\/a> are packed with healthy mono- and polyunsaturated fats, plus <a href=\"https:\/\/store.dailyburn.com\/products\/fuel-6?partner=life&amp;mtype=5&amp;sub_id=091014_healthyfoodsabused&amp;utm_source=life&amp;utm_medium=life&amp;utm_campaign=091014_healthyfoodsabused&amp;utm_content=091014_healthyfoodsabused\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">protein<\/a>, and fiber,\u201d says Wagner. However, throwing them <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/no-equipment-back-exercises\/\"   title=\"back\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"425\">back<\/a> by the handful (or spoonful, if you\u2019re dipping into a jar of nut butter) can pack on the fat and calories quickly and throw your diet out of whack. \u201cIf you\u2019re eating nut butter, you also have to be careful that the variety you choose isn\u2019t full of sugar,\u201d she says. Some versions contain hydrogenated fats too, the bad kind that you want to avoid, to prevent the butter from separating, says Haas.<\/p>\n<p>Look instead for \u201cnatural\u201d options; the ingredient lists typically contain only the nut (and salt if you prefer). Sushi<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Your go-to takeout dinner is a great source of <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/best-protein-powder-whey-casein-vegan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lean protein<\/a> and whole grains, if you opt for brown rice. Choose rolls with tempura or spicy sauces, though, and you can take in too many calories and grams of fat quickly. \u201cPeople tend to overdo it with <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/shop-best-seafood-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sushi<\/a> because of its health halo and how light it tastes,\u201d says Haas.<\/p>\n<p>She suggests putting down the chopsticks between bites and taking a sip of water before deciding if you need more. Dried Fruit<\/b><\/h3>\n<p>Munching on dried mango, cranberries, peaches or apples is a better bet than potato chips, but don\u2019t go downing the whole bag. \u201cDried fruit can be filled with processed sugar and sulfites, which can cause a stomach ache or a flushed face if you\u2019re allergic,\u201d says Wagner.<\/p>\n<p>Limit your serving to one-fourth of a cup. Those benefits don\u2019t mean, however, that olives should be the main ingredient on your Greek salad.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey do contain salt and fat, so you should limit yourself to about five small olives or three to five Kalamata,\u201d says Haas.
