In reality, only five percent of the people at UFC Gyms are training to be competitive fighters, Prentiss says. The other 95 percent just want a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/high-intensity-interval-hiit-workouts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">good workout<\/a>. \u201cYou\u2019re not going to get hit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/best-kickboxing-classes-burn-calories\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 7 Best Kickboxing Classes to Crank Up the Burn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What you <em>will <\/em>get inside UFC Gyms (there are more than 120 nationwide) is a fully equipped workout facility, complete with <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/treadmill-classes-cardio-workouts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">treadmills<\/a>, bikes, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/how-to-build-muscle-fast-pick-weights\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free weights<\/a> and group workout classes, ranging from Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) to Muay Thai to Kickboxing. There\u2019s also a popular Daily Ultimate Training class that offers up an intense <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/battle-ropes-workout-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">circuit training<\/a> workout. The only thing that distinguishes UFC Gyms from your typical fitness center is the \u2018Octagon\u2019 (the UFC\u2019s term for a fighting ring), and the rows of punching bags hanging alongside it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fun \u2014 it\u2019s not like getting on the treadmill and staring at the wall,\u201d Prentiss says. \u201cYou come here and someone is putting you through a workout, and it\u2019s so much <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/lifestyle\/how-to-relieve-stress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stress relief<\/a> when you\u2019re hitting the bag, too. Repeat for one minute.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Know Before You Go: How to Wrap Your Hands<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LuWH-xHozAc\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Just like runners don\u2019t put on shoes without socks, fighters don\u2019t put on gloves without hand wraps. \u201cYou have two goals when you\u2019re wrapping your hands: Supporting your wrist and protecting your knuckles,\u201d Prentiss says. Follow these steps, and watch the simple video above, to learn how to pad your punchers before you hit the Octagon.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Put your thumb through the small band at the end of your wrap.<\/li>\n<li>Loop the wrap around your wrist three times.<\/li>\n<li>Make an X by crossing the wrap over your hand, between your thumb and pointer finger, and then under your hand and back up between your pinkie and ring finger.<\/li>\n<li>Lock it in by looping the wrap around our wrist again.<\/li>\n<li>Then, loop the wrap under the hand and through each finger and thumb, keeping your fingers splayed wide.<\/li>\n<li>Lock it in by looping the wrap around our wrist again.<\/li>\n<li>Build a cushion around your knuckles, keeping your hand wide, by looping the wrap around your knuckles five or six times, until the wrap is nearly gone.<\/li>\n<li>Loop the wrap around your wrist one last time to lock it in, secure with Velcro, and make a fist.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Now that you\u2019re prepared to embrace UFC\u2019s \u201ctrain different\u201d approach, jump into the&nbsp;Octagon for a workout that will get you in fighting shape from head to toe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Love to watch boxing and MMA matches, but too terrified to try it?
