But it only took me one year to know that this was going to be a huge part of my life. My motto is if you are ready to give up control and get out of your head, you will be able to learn to dance. Dance is based on logic. If you can clap the rhythm, then you can dance it. I say, \u2018Stop thinking and start watching and listening. If you see the person in front if you goes forward with the left foot, don\u2019t think about it, just do it!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>On committing to fitness: <\/strong>\u201cI want to feel as good on the inside as I look on the outside. I can go to the gym for the sake of working out, but if I don\u2019t walk out of there feeling good, I won\u2019t go <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/no-equipment-back-exercises\/\"   title=\"back\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"610\">back<\/a> the next day. Determine your \u2018why,\u2019 set your goal, and be prepared to do whatever it takes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>On bringing sexy back: <\/strong>\u201cJust because you only see the front of your body when you look in the mirror, doesn\u2019t mean you should <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/strength-training-for-women-neglected-muscles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">forget your backside<\/a>. It\u2019s so important to think holistically, and work the whole body \u2014 front, back, top to bottom. And in the Viennese Waltz you get it all. People might say, \u2018Wait, that\u2019s an elegant dance, why would you do that with weights?\u2019 But afterwards they thank me! They say \u2018I never would have thought that this would give me legs, posture, arms and upper body all in one song.\u2019 Three minutes. And that\u2019s just one dance. We also do Paso Doble for muscle endurance. Then Jive for cardio, so you\u2019re covering cardio, muscle endurance and weight training.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>On (not) dieting: <\/strong>\u201cI\u2019m a conscious eater \u2014 and that\u2019s the only thing I will promote. I believe it\u2019s important for people to understand that if there\u2019s something you crave, that\u2019s not bad. You just need to be conscious of it and day \u2018OK, not every day, not too much.\u2019 It\u2019s all about learning a little more about food. What are carbs, what are proteins, what are saturated fats, for me it\u2019s all about awareness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>On chocolate and ice cream: <\/strong>\u201cYes and yes. I love it all, but you can bet I\u2019ll be in the gym the next day!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>On his favorite <em>DWTS<\/em> pairing: <\/strong>\u201cKelly Osbourne. When we started out, she didn\u2019t think she could dance; she was out of shape. But by the time she made the finals she had lost 35 pounds. She was confident, she was happy from inside out, and she felt accomplished. It\u2019s why I do what I do.\u201d<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On being kind to yourself: <\/strong>\u201cTransformation happens over a long period of time. When it comes to weight loss people give themselves a week. But think about it: You\u2019re on the planet let\u2019s say for 80 years, so why not give yourself more time? That way you don\u2019t ever have to feel pressured. Plus it\u2019s way healthier and more sustainable in the long run.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the secret to success: \u201c<\/strong>There are no shortcuts. Right now I feel I\u2019m on dream number four. The secret is looking at the long haul. Set a goal, work at it, and enjoy what you do.
