But her secret to a stronger core isn\u2019t what you think. That\u2019s right \u2014\u00a0it\u2019s not crunches \u2014\u00a0but the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/db\/how-to-do-a-squat-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">good, old-fashioned squat<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn order to do a squat properly, everything has to be engaged and it starts with your core,\u201d says Hagendorf, the official host of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timessquarenyc.org\/times-square-new-years-eve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times Square New Years Eve<\/a>. \u201cYour shoulders are back and you need to have a nice tall chest and the way you\u2019ll do that is having your core engaged, otherwise your shoulders come forward and you\u2019re hunched. Most people who show up are surprised when they realized they <em>aren\u2019t <\/em>in for a million crunches \u2014\u00a0but rather, a workout filled with planks, squats, rotations, plyometrics and agility moves.<\/p>\n<p>However, while you can plank and squat to your heart\u2019s content, Hagendorf is quick to point out that, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/exercise-diet-eating-right-coca-cola\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abs are made in the kitchen<\/a>.\u201d The self-described food lover sticks to a diet primarily comprised of plants, animals, nuts and seeds. And then I partner with a chef and we curate a menu of real, nutrient dense whole foods.
