(Well, kind of.) He\u2019d work out solo, with headphones, going through a routine \u2014&nbsp;and occasionally copying other moves he saw on the gym floor.<\/p>\n<p>But that all changed when he got a call one day from Hugh Jackman \u2014&nbsp;yup, <em>that<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0413168\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hugh Jackman<\/a> \u2014 to ask Barker if he\u2019d like to join his workouts while he was training to star in <em>Wolverine. <\/em>\u201cHe liked working out in a bit of a pack so he started inviting his friends to work out with him, myself and a couple of other guys,\u201d Barker, host of SiriusXM\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/m.siriusxm.com\/servlet\/Satellite?childpagename=SXM\/Utility\/MOB_GetEpisodesInfo&amp;packedargs=pgId=8008&amp;prId=1733551&amp;pagename=SXM\/Wrapper\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Gentleman\u2019s Code<\/em><\/a>, recalls. But Barker wasn\u2019t easily convinced. \u201cI was terribly intimidated and didn\u2019t want to do it \u2014 he asked me maybe six times until I got embarrassed not to go!\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/db\/dailyburn-365-workout-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Burn 365: New Workouts, 7 Days a Week<\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-47500 size-full\" title=\"3 Holy-Crap Moves from Nigel Barker and the Dog Pound Crew\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/nigel_barker_@.jpg\" alt=\"3 Holy-Crap Moves from Nigel Barker and the Dog Pound Crew\" width=\"620\" height=\"400\"><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Welcome to the DogPound<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Eventually, Barker joined the crew \u2014&nbsp;and was totally hooked. \u201cInstead of being intimidating, it was this incredible sense of brotherhood and positive reinforcement,\u201d says Barker, who recently joined <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/guest\/nigelbarker\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Burn 365<\/a> for a workout. \u201cAt the same time, it was challenging. Everyone\u2019s pretty competitive and wants to be the best, so that pushes everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Soon enough, the group of about eight guys was joining up with trainers six days a week at various gyms across New York City&nbsp;\u2014&nbsp;and started calling themselves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedogpound.com\/\">The DogPound<\/a>. (They\u2019d all bring their dogs to the workouts!) Today, they\u2019ve even expanded to include three Olympic athletes, a NAVY Seal and the head trainer for the NYPD, among other big names.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/db\/365-5-minute-ab-workout\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 5-Minute Ab Workout to Strengthen Your Core<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of us are in our 40s, a few are in their 50s, a few are in their 30s and one or two who are much younger,\u201d Barker says. \u201cWhen you get to work out with a guy like [Olympian <a href=\"https:\/\/usaswimming.org\/DesktopDefault.aspx?TabId=1453&amp;Alias=Rainbow&amp;Lang=en-US&amp;biosid=e164b323-676b-4c0d-b78e-57e8d0f9b788\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Conor Dwyer<\/a>] and you\u2019re me, you say, \u2018He\u2019s an Olympian and he\u2019s 20 years my junior \u2014 there\u2019s no way I can compete!\u2019 But then there\u2019s something you can do that he can\u2019t\u2026and you think, \u2018I\u2019m doing pretty good for an old guy!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Nigel Barker\u2019s DogPound Workouts<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Dog Pound workouts revolve around heavy lifting, with high numbers of reps and few breaks. On Mondays, they focus on <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/no-equipment-back-exercises\/\">chest and back<\/a>; Tuesdays, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/never-skip-leg-day\/\">legs<\/a>; Wednesday, full body; Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/db\/arm-workout-toning-exercises\/\">arms<\/a>; Friday, deadlifts and shoulders; Saturday, full-body again \u2014 and on Sunday, they rest. \u201cGoing to the gym to work out with these guys is one of my favorite times of the entire day even though it\u2019s at 5:45 a.m.,\u201d Barker says.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, the DogPound crew started to get bigger, as more people asked to join. So the group decided it was time to build their own gym \u2014&nbsp;aptly named&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedogpound.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The DogPound<\/a> \u2014 which will open in New York City in March.<\/p>\n<p>Need proof that Dog Pound workouts really work?
