This <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/db\/ab-exercises-standing-workout\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">standing variation<\/a> will work its magic on your core in a whole new way. \u201cWith the dancing skeleton, you\u2019re working your <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/obliques-abs-oblique-workout\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">obliques<\/a>, but also adding the element of balance, which improves everyday function and stability,\u201d Shannon says. This ab-tightening move also adds range of motion, and you can get your heart rate up by working in some speed. To maintain wicked posture, keep a slight bend in your supporting leg as you lift the other leg towards your elbow. Shannon advises, \u201cTransfer a little more weight into your heels, and imagine squeezing your <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/exercises-to-prevent-shoulder-impingement-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shoulder blades<\/a> together as you hinge forward.\u201d But don\u2019t mistake this move for a squat. \u201cWhile it\u2019s natural to transfer some weight into the heels as you descend, think more of keeping your abs engaged than sticking your butt out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t be afraid to go at a slower pace in order to keep your back flat and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/db\/back-chest-workout-ltf\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chest <\/a>lifted. Remember to make sure your knee doesn\u2019t move past your toes and to sit your hips back into the stretch once you lunge sideways. Shannon\u2019s pro tip: \u201cStep out wide into the lunge, toes pointing forward and keep that back straight! Enjoy the feeling of swinging down to up \u2014 it\u2019s fun!\u201d Just don\u2019t cheat yourself by using momentum. If you find yourself struggling with the broomstick overhead, Shannon says to try taking a wider arm position, especially if you have limited <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/best-mobility-exercises-mobility-wod\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">mobility<\/a> in your shoulders. For your lower body, Shannon recommends, \u201cKeep your weight in your heels, and let your butt stick out a bit (without losing stability in your lower back). In this grave riser exercise, start by laying flat on your back with your hands on both ends of the broomstick in front of you and feet flexed. As you slowly raise your <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/strength-training-muscles-men-ignore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upper body<\/a> off the ground, keep your legs straight and pinned to the floor. \u201cSend energy through your heels to keep your feet actively flexed and tuck your chin to your chest as you come up,\u201d Shannon says.<\/p>\n<p>While your back doesn\u2019t need to be perfectly straight in this exercise, especially on the way up and down, Shannon says you\u2019ll need to engage your <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/db\/mountain-climbers-ab-workout\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">abdominals<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/db\/back-exercises-tone-up-fast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">back muscles<\/a> to lift yourself from the floor and safely peel back down. \u201cTry to feel your sit bones pressing down on the floor as you stretch your spine as tall as you can.
