It\u2019s warm, immunity boosting, and tastes like, well, chicken noodle soup. But there\u2019s a new wave of bone broth products that\u2019s combining everything from <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/recipes\/matcha-recipes-matcha-latte\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">matcha<\/a> to turmeric to cold-pressed juices to protein powders with the immune-boosting drink. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franceslargemanroth.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Frances Largeman-Roth<\/a>, RDN, nutrition expert and author of <em>Eating in Color<\/em>, \u201cBone broth has also been touted for its ability to reduce joint pain and inflammation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Compared to regular chicken stock, bone broth is made with more bones, which contain <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/collagen-superfood-health-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">collagen<\/a> and connective tissues. It\u2019s believed that the cartilage on the bones release chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine into the broth, which can help reduce inflammation, Largeman-Roth says.<\/p>\n<h2>Finding the Right Bone Broth<\/h2>\n<p>Some like it hot, and some like it\u2026in a smoothie? The good news is there are plenty of options. \u201cFolks who want the benefit of a veggie juice might be interested in [a bone broth] mixed with cold-pressed juices that you can just heat and serve,\u201d Largeman-Roth says. The same goes for bone broths mixed with <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/best-protein-powder-whey-casein-vegan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">protein supplements<\/a>. That said, spending a ton on the latest all-in-one products isn\u2019t necessary for a well-balanced diet, she adds. \u201cYou can easily and cheaply add protein to your diet without using a bone broth powder,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<p>And then there\u2019s the fine print\u2026Largeman-Roth suggests opting for organic brands if you want to avoid added hormones and antibiotics. Also, take note of the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/salt-sodium-recommendations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sodium content<\/a>. \u201c[Bone broth] is generally lower in sodium than traditional soup, but you should still keep track of your daily intake and limit it to no more than 2,300 milligrams,\u201d she says. Largeman-Roth also advises people living with diabetes and high blood pressure to look out for brands that contain <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/maca-reishi-adaptogens-health-benefits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adaptogenic herbs<\/a>, like Ashwagandha, which can interact with your medications.
