In fact, <em>Forbes <\/em>reported that the global market for health and wellness reached <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/deborahweinswig\/2017\/06\/30\/wellness-is-the-new-luxury-is-healthy-and-happy-the-future-of-retail\/#5bcd969e8323\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$686 billion<\/a> in 2016 and is expected to grow $815 billion by 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople expect and hope for a miracle that will make them feel and look their best,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bonnietaubdix.com\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bonnie Taub-Dix<\/a>, MA, RD, CDN, founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/betterthandieting.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Better Than Dieting<\/a>. \u201cBut the truth is there\u2019s no one food. You have to think of your diet as an orchestra. You can\u2019t have just one instrument,\u201d Taub-Dix says.<\/p>\n<p>Most nutritionists will agree that your healthy ensemble starts with a well-balance diet. Certain supplements and herbs can counter the effectiveness of the mediation you\u2019re on,\u201d she says. After all, they\u2019re the superhero of your gut \u2014 the body\u2019s control center for <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/health\/gut-health-essential-nutrients-better-sleep\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sleep<\/a>, immunity and even sports performance \u2014 responsible for fighting off inflammation and bad bacteria. But food manufacturers aren\u2019t sticking with pills and capsules. Today, you\u2019ll find everything from almond-based yogurts, cheese and drinks to ice cream, granola and chocolates boosted with probiotics. Ben &amp; Jerry\u2019s is even looking into release <a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/recipes\/easy-kombucha-recipes-home-brew\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">kombucha<\/a> ice cream in the near future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The fine print:<\/strong> Keep in mind, the bacteria in these products have a shelf life, and they need to be <em>live<\/em> bacteria in order for it to have any effect or benefit for you, Glassman says. \u201cThe best probiotics come from real whole foods, like kefir or sauerkraut, and reputable probiotic supplements,\u201d she says. \u201cOftentimes products simply add a small amount of probiotics to be able to put it on the label. For example, the turmeric latte from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pret.com\/en-us\/2359-over-ice-almond-turmeric-latte-.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pret a Manger<\/a> has 25 grams of sugar in one serving. \u201cTurmeric is anti-inflammatory, but whether you\u2019re taking it in a pill or as a food, you don\u2019t know how much is in there.
