{"id":66327,"date":"2020-04-27T11:42:10","date_gmt":"2020-04-27T15:42:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/?p=66327"},"modified":"2020-04-27T12:17:55","modified_gmt":"2020-04-27T16:17:55","slug":"daily-burn-at-home-social-distancing-member-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/db\/daily-burn-at-home-social-distancing-member-report\/","title":{"rendered":"Daily Burn At-Home Social Distancing Member Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How members are embracing at-home fitness during social distancing<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Overview: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As more and more folks turn to at-home fitness options while staying in, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daily Burn<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> wanted to get a pulse on how members both new and old are handling their new routine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a survey of <\/span><b>5,446 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">active Daily Burn members in the U.S., 18 and older, Daily Burn discovered how members are working out in their free time and what keeps them motivated to keep up their wellness goals under quarantine. We\u2019ve also included insight and expert advice from Daily Burn\u2019s Director of Fitness, Amanda Murdock, on the trends found throughout the report.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Convenience Is Top of Mind (Even Post-Quarantine)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An overwhelming majority of members <\/span><b>(93%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> think they\u2019ll keep working out from home after the quarantine is over. Of these 93%, <\/span><b>88%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> name convenience as the biggest factor in why they\u2019re continuing their at-home workouts even after gyms and fitness centers reopen.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A good variety of workouts <\/span><b>(69%) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as well as the affordability <\/span><b>(54%) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of programs like Daily Burn were also top considerations for why at-home workouts are here to stay \u2013 particularly since <\/span><b>53%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for respondents also said that since working out from home, they\u2019ve enjoyed it better than going to a gym or class.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAt-home workouts can also be a great way to supplement any programs you\u2019re doing in a gym or at a group fitness class,\u201d Daily Burn\u2019s Director of Fitness Amanda Murdock shares. \u201cIf a specific move or exercise you prefer isn\u2019t covered in class, you can always continue the workout on your own when you get home.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cdn-life.dailyburn.com\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/10002837\/Social-Distancing-Member-Report.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-66329 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-life.dailyburn.com\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/10002837\/Social-Distancing-Member-Report-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"369\" height=\"369\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn-life.dailyburn.com\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/10002837\/Social-Distancing-Member-Report-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cdn-life.dailyburn.com\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/10002837\/Social-Distancing-Member-Report-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cdn-life.dailyburn.com\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/10002837\/Social-Distancing-Member-Report-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/cdn-life.dailyburn.com\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/10002837\/Social-Distancing-Member-Report-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cdn-life.dailyburn.com\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/10002837\/Social-Distancing-Member-Report.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 369px) 100vw, 369px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Staying Motivated + Managing Stress While Home<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While most members joined Daily Burn either to lose weight <\/span><b>(38%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or move more<\/span><b> (28%), <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a whopping <\/span><b>82%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of members shared that working out at home has also helped with mental health and managing stress.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Members named managing stress and mental health <\/span><b>(71%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as one of the top factors keeping them motivated to workout at home, followed by scheduling their workouts in their calendar<\/span><b> (38%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><b>\u201c<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Focusing on those non-scale victories, like feeling better mentally or physically, can do wonders for your motivation and commitment to an at-home workout,\u201d shares Amanda.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, <\/span><b>26% <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of members aren\u2019t warming up or cooling down before\/after their workouts. Additionally, <\/span><b>73% <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">report worrying about their form when they\u2019re doing exercises on their own.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWarm-ups and cool-downs are incredibly essential parts of your workout,\u201d explains Amanda. \u201cAnd a good guideline for checking your form, other than taking a video of yourself working out or asking someone else to check your form, is that if you\u2019re in pain during an exercise \u2013 stop.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Trying Out New Workouts<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daily Burn members are big fans of our HIIT workouts, as <\/span><b>52%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of members reported that they were doing High-Intensity workouts the most while quarantined, with Cardio <\/span><b>(16%) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a popular second choice.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Members are also expanding past their comfort zone to try out new routines. <\/span><b>73%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of respondents said they\u2019ve tried out a new workout they\u2019ve never done before, with<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">members trying out a variety of Pilates\/Barre <\/span><b>(35%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 10-minute Tone <\/span><b>(35%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Power Cardio <\/span><b>(33%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and\/or<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kickboxing classes <\/span><b>(33%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHIIT is a popular option for a lot of people because it\u2019s super effective at getting your heart rate up in a short amount of time,\u201d Amanda explains. \u201cHowever, depending on your fitness goals (and schedule), other low-intensity workouts like beginner yoga or <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/dailyburn.com\/life\/fitness\/core-moves-beginner-pilates-workout\/\"   title=\"Pilates\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"234\">Pilates<\/a> can also provide the workout you\u2019re looking for.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to Daily Burn workouts, members are also turning to other at-home solutions like walking\/running with their dog <\/span><b>(60%)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or getting their steps in by walking around the house <\/span><b>(48%) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as small ways to stay active during this time.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Finding Community Away From the Gym<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Members have dealt with the social isolation of quarantining with the help of Daily Burn. <\/span><b>37%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of members say the Daily Burn community (through our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/dailyburncommunity\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">active Facebook group<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or within the app) has helped motivate them to achieve their goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>24%<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of members are also turning to family members during quarantine to involve them in their workouts, and <\/span>5%<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of members reported that the majority of their workouts were actually family workouts.\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cEveryone begins at a different skill and fitness levels when they first join Daily Burn, and so we want to provide workouts for all age ranges and skills,\u201d shares Amanda. \u201cThis is why you\u2019ll see programs like 365 Fit Family on our platform \u2013 the more people moving the better!\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Methodology<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daily Burn conducted the survey in April 2020 via an online survey form to its active members from a sample of 5,446, ages 18 and over from the continental U.S., Alaska and Hawaii, in English. Respondents are paying or trial members of Daily Burn\u2019s fitness collective, including Daily Burn At-Home, HIIT by Daily Burn, Yoga by Daily Burn, and Running by Daily Burn
